Is this the side that goes into the exaust or would the hose on the other side of the black peace go into the exaust?

The cast metal end is what attaches (bolts to) the exhaust. See the extra picture of it installed. It connects to the "tripod" looking piece sticking out of the exhaust pipe on
this muffler
.
