Predator 224cc Hemi Engine Analysis

Posted by BMI Karts

Key Findings:

  • Bore x Stroke: 2.93" (74.5mm) x 2.03" (51.5mm)
  • Existing Billet Flywheels Available: Our Billet Flywheels (PN: A6626 & A6696) for the Hemi Predator engine are compatible with this model.
  • Wrist Pin Size: .510

Billet Rod Decision:

  • At this time, ARC does not see a need to produce a billet rod for this engine. The primary reason is the weak piston design, which is unlikely to withstand high RPM use where a billet rod would typically be beneficial. The piston lacks adequate support around the bottom of the wrist pin, creating a weak point that is prone to failure under stress.

Additional Considerations:

  • No Direct Replacement Pistons Available: Currently, there is no OEM or Wiseco piston that is a direct fit or can be modified to fit this engine.
  • Unique Block Design: Unlike other small engines, this block is wider through the middle, resulting in a longer camshaft and a wider crankshaft. This means that Predator or Clone cranks and cams are not direct replacements.
  • Lowered Cylinder Position: The cylinder is positioned lower in relation to the crank centerline, making side cover swaps impossible.

Final Verdict:
This engine is best suited for governed cruising or trail riding, but due to its poor piston design and lack of replacement options, we do not see a viable performance market for it at this time. Therefore, we will not be carrying a billet rod or side cover for this engine.
